Mellotron

The Mellotron gave rock and studio music a ghostly orchestral colour before digital sampling became ordinary. Its tape-based sounds could imitate strings, choir, flute, and other instruments with a fragile, unstable character. The tag connects 1960s and 1970s rock, progressive arrangements, and bands such as King Crimson, where keyboard colour became part of the composition itself.
