Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller formed one of the most important songwriting partnerships in American popular music. The team joined blues, rhythm and blues, teenage comedy, Latin color, and early rock into tightly made songs for the record market. Hound Dog, Jailhouse Rock, Love Potion No. 9, Yakety Yak, and Stand by Me became part of the shared vocabulary of postwar USA popular song.
