MODERN JAZZ QUARTET

The Modern Jazz Quartet was a jazz ensemble from the USA, known for its refined chamber-like sound. Built around John Lewis, Milt Jackson, Percy Heath, and Connie Kay, the group joined bebop language with counterpoint, blues, and formal restraint. Albums and pieces such as Django, Fontessa, and Concorde made the quartet a major voice in cool jazz and third stream.
