Lalgudi Jayaraman

Lalgudi Jayaraman gave Carnatic violin playing a lyrical, vocal, and highly disciplined modern form. His style emphasized melodic grace, rhythmic control, and a close relationship to song, dance, and raga structure. As performer, composer, and teacher, he helped define how the violin could speak inside South Indian classical music.
