Morphine

Morphine built an unusually low, spare rock sound from voice, two-string slide bass, baritone saxophone, and drums. The trio from the USA centered on Mark Sandman's dark vocal presence and a groove that borrowed from blues, jazz, and nocturnal minimalism. Buena, Cure for Pain, and Thursday place the band outside ordinary guitar-rock habits while still speaking the language of rock.
