Afric Simone was a Mozambican multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, dancer, and entertainer who gained worldwide fame during the 1970s and 1980s. He was born on 17 July 1956 in Inhambane, Mozambique, to a Brazilian father and a Mozambique-origin mother. Simone’s first hit, Ramaya, in 1975 topped the European charts, followed by another hit, Hafanana, released later the same year. Simone's music is a blend of Swahili and other languages. Simone is known for his mastery of several languages, including German, English, Portuguese, French, Spanish, and various African languages. He has performed across Europe and sold out shows at major international venues including L'Olympia, The Royal Albert Hall and the Carnegie Hall. Simone is considered one of the most prominent African musicians of his time.
