Compay Segundo—a Cuban trova guitarist, singer, and composer—was active from the 1940s to the 2000s. Born in Siboney, Cuba, he started his musical career in the Municipal Band of Santiago de Cuba. He gained fame as the second voice and tres player in the duo Los Compadres. However, his international recognition came with the release of the Buena Vista Social Club album in 1997. His notable piece—Chan Chan—became a classic and was recorded by various artists.
