Mike Stoller helped write the sound of postwar rhythm and blues, early rock and roll, and theatrical pop. Working with Jerry Leiber, he shaped songs for the Coasters, Elvis Presley, Ben E. King, and many others. Hound Dog, Jailhouse Rock, Yakety Yak, and Stand by Me place him at the centre of USA popular song.
