Jerry Leiber

Jerry Leiber helped write the language of postwar American rhythm and blues, pop, and early rock and roll. Working with Mike Stoller, he created songs for performers including the Coasters, Elvis Presley, and many vocal groups. Hound Dog, Jailhouse Rock, Stand by Me, and Yakety Yak show how sharp lyric writing could move between theatre, street comedy, blues, and rock.
