Adrian Belew is an American musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer who has been active in the music industry since 1977. His musical style includes experimental rock, industrial rock, new wave, and progressive rock. Belew is best known for his long career as a singer and guitarist in the progressive rock group King Crimson from 1981 to 2009, and he has also released nearly 20 solo albums. Belew has worked with David Bowie, Frank Zappa, Talking Heads, Laurie Anderson, and Nine Inch Nails, among others. Belew's guitar-playing style is known for its unusual and impressionistic approach to guitar tones. He is a pioneer of guitar synthesizers, having been one of the first players to bring them to, and consistently use them in, popular music.
