Alöys Fornerod (1890-1965) was a Swiss violinist, composer, music critic, and educator. He studied violin and theory at Lausanne Cons and Schola Cantorum in Paris. Fornerod was a critic for La Tribune de Lausanne for 40 years, and in 1954 he was appointed director of the Fribourg Cons. Fornerod followed the French modern style in his compositions, in the spirit of fin-de-siecle Impressionism. Notable works include the comic opera Genevieve, Le Voyage de printemps suite, and Te Deum for Soloists, Chorus, and Orch. He was an accomplished musician and educator and has left an indelible mark on Swiss music.
