The BBC Singers is a professional British chamber choir, based in London and employed by the BBC. The choir is one of the six BBC Performing Groups and the only full-time professional British choir. It performs in live concerts, radio transmissions, recordings, and education workshops. The BBC Singers specialize in classical music, and they are a regular guest at the BBC Proms. The choir has performed with leading international orchestras and conductors, and former members include Sir Peter Pears and Sarah Connolly. The BBC Singers were established in 1924 as The Wireless Chorus and were later renamed The BBC Singers. They have been conducted by famous names, including Herbert von Karajan and Wilhelm Furtwängler.
