Bessie Griffin was an American gospel singer born on July 6, 1922, in New Orleans. She began singing in a quartet in junior high school and later became part of The Caravans. After moving to Los Angeles in 1958, she founded a group called the Gospel Pearls and collaborated with Robert "Bumps" Blackwell in making the first gospel musical. Griffin appeared on popular television shows such as The Ed Sullivan Show and The Dinah Shore Show but never achieved significant financial success. She died on April 10, 1989.
