Christian Friedrich Daniel Schubart was a German poet, organist, composer, and journalist. He was active during the late 18th century. Schubart faced numerous challenges due to his critical writings and spent a decade in harsh imprisonment. He demonstrated remarkable musical talent and was praised by Charles Burney for his harpsichord playing. Schubart composed operettas, melodramas, musical rhapsodies, and songs. Notable works include the operetta Die glücklichen Reisenden and the melodrama Evas Klage bei des Messias Tod. He is also known for his poem Die Forelle which was later set to music by Franz Schubert.
