Wojciech Bobowski, also known as Ali Ufki, was a Polish musician who became a dragoman in the Ottoman Empire in the 17th century. He was captured by a Turkish prince and sold to the court of Sultan Murad IV, where he converted to Islam and became an interpreter, treasurer, and musician. He was also known for mastering 17 languages, including Polish, Turkish, Arabic, Spanish, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Italian, and Latin. Bobowski's notable achievements include translating the Bible into Ottoman Turkish, composing an Ottoman Psalter based on the Genevan metrical psalter, and releasing two manuscript anthologies of Ottoman music. He also wrote a grammar of the Ottoman Turkish language and translated works of Hugo Grotius and Comenius into that language.
