Anne Danican Philidor
Anne Danican Philidor was a French woodwind player and composer born in Paris in 1681. He came from a family of professional woodwind players in the king's service, and he succeeded his father as an oboist in the king's orchestra in 1702. Anne also served as the king's musical librarian, amassing a vast collection of music portfolios. He is best known for founding the Concert Spirituel, a series of public concerts held in the Palace of the Tuileries. Anne's compositions include religious pieces and two books for solo instrument and continuo, which feature the sonata in D minor that has been recorded multiple times. He was financially backed by his godfather for his composition L'Amour vainqueur, which was given a court performance in 1697.
