András Kórodi was a Hungarian conductor, born on May 24, 1922, in Budapest, and died on September 17, 1986, in Treviso. He studied at the Franz-Liszt-Musikakademie in Budapest and became the first conductor of the Budapest Opera in 1963. He was also the chief conductor of the Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra from 1967 until his death. Kórodi was a strong advocate for 20th-century music, particularly the works of Hungarian composers such as Béla Bartók, Zoltán Kodály, and Franz Liszt. He recorded several of their works and also taught at the Budapest Academy, mentoring notable conductors such as András Ligeti and Ádám Medveczky.
