Baxter Taylor
Baxter Taylor—a folk singer and teacher—was born on August 28, 1940, in Oklahoma City and grew up in Dallas, Texas. In 1959, he formed a folk band—The Wayfarers Trio—with Mason Williams and Bill Cheatwood. Later, he joined The New Christy Minstrels in 1962 after the trio split. After military service, Taylor returned to college, got married, and worked for Sears after his twin daughters were born. His song Marie Laveau became a hit in 1971, and he received a BMI Songwriting Award for it. In 1980, he was a semi-finalist in the New Folk Songwriting Contest. Baxter Taylor owned BaxTrax Recording Studio and retired as a school teacher in 2006.
