Chen Gang is a Chinese composer known for his Butterfly Lovers' Violin Concerto. Born in 1935, he is the son of songwriter Chen Gexin and received early musical training from his father and other teachers. Chen Gang studied composition at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music from 1955 to 1959. During this time, he collaborated with fellow student He Zhanhao to compose the famous violin concerto Butterfly Lovers. The concerto has received numerous awards and international recognition. Chen Gang is currently a professor at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and has composed other notable works such as Miaolin's Morning and Sun Shines in Tashkurgan.
