Andrea Falconieri was an Italian baroque musician, singer, and composer born in Naples in 1585 or 1586. He traveled to many Italian aristocratic courts, such as Modena, Parma, and Genoa, and became a musician at the Court of the Viceroy in Naples in 1639. Falconieri composed seven collections between 1616 and 1620, which included madrigals, motets, and instrumental pieces such as the famous Il Libro Primo di Canzoni, Sinfonie, Fantasie, Capricci. His work is a blend of Italian and Spanish styles, and he is known for his compositions inspired by the famous and prolific Follia theme. Falconieri died in Naples in 1656 during the notorious plague epidemic.
