Accademia Bizantina is a baroque orchestra group formed in Ravenna, Italy in 1983. They specialize in executing music from the 17th and 18th centuries, as well as Monteverdi's repertoire and some late Renaissance composers. The ensemble uses original instruments from the era and follows the philosophy of philological interpretation of the music performed. The group has gained critical acclaim over the years, and their participation in major European festivals such as Salzburg, Ravenna, Holstein, and Lucerne has confirmed their importance and notoriety. The ensemble has performed in Europe, the United States, and Japan. Ottavio Dantone has been the group's director and harpsichordist since 1996. The group has released around twenty CDs with prestigious record labels like ARTS, Decca, Naïve, and others.
