Alfred Dartiguenave was a French painter and illustrator born on December 11, 1821, in Pau. After studying in Paris, he returned to his hometown to teach drawing and painting. He gained recognition for his lithographs, which were published in Album Pyrénéen, and his book, Costumes des Pyrénées dessinés d'après nature. Dartiguenave's notable works include Branle d'Ossau, Environs de Pau, Environs de Bagnères-de-Bigorre, Grisette et servantes à Pau, and Guide et chasseur aux Eaux-Bonnes. He passed away on May 5, 1885, in Pau at the age of 63.
