Anna Sigríður Þorvaldsdóttir, born on July 11, 1977, is an Icelandic composer who won the Nordic Council Music Prize in 2012. She trained as a cellist and studied composition at the Iceland Academy of the Arts and the University of California, San Diego. Her music is frequently performed in Europe and the United States and is often inspired by landscapes and nature. Thorvaldsdottir has been commissioned by many major orchestras, including the Berliner Philharmoniker, New York Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic, and Orchestre de Paris, among others. She has also given lectures and presentations at several universities worldwide. Some of her notable works include Dreaming, AERIALITY, METACOSMOS, AION, CATAMORPHOSIS, and ARCHORA.
