Chiang Wen-yeh—also known as Jiang Wenye—was a Taiwanese composer active mainly in Japan and later in China. He merged traditional Chinese, Taiwanese, and Japanese music with modernist influences in his compositions, ranging from piano to choral and orchestral works. He achieved recognition when his orchestral work Formosan Dance received an honorable mention in the art competition of the 1936 Berlin Summer Olympics. Chiang's career suffered during the political turmoil, but after his death, his work gained new recognition in East Asia and the West.
