Elizabeth "Libba" Cotten was an American folk and blues musician known for her unique left-handed guitar-playing style. Active from the 1930s to the 1980s, she played a right-handed guitar upside down, creating the signature "Cotten picking" technique. Her album Folksongs and Instrumentals with Guitar gained recognition in the 1950s. Notably, her song Freight Train became a skiffle hit in the UK during the 1950s. In 1984, at the age of 90, she won a Grammy Award for Best Ethnic or Traditional Folk Recording. Cotten's influence spans generations and genres, leading to her posthumous induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2022 for her early influence.
