Charles Trenet
Charles Trenet—a French singer-songwriter—was active from the 1930s to the 1990s. Known for his jazz and easy-listening music, Trenet composed both the music and lyrics for nearly 1,000 songs over his more than 60-year career. Some notable pieces include Boum!, La Mer, and Nationale 7. Trenet collaborated with musicians Michel Emer and Léo Chauliac, recording popular songs like Y'a d'la joie and Douce France. Trenet's best-known work internationally is La Mer, which has been recorded in over 400 versions and became popular as Beyond the Sea.
