The Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin (Akamus) is a Berlin-based orchestra founded in 1982 for the authentic performance of Baroque and Classical period music. The orchestra plays music on instruments from the time of their creation, and historical instructions are followed for the musical context of articulation, dynamics, phrasing, tempo, agogics, etc. The orchestra usually works without a conductor but occasionally invites guest conductors for large orchestra projects. The Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin's first concert series was at the Berliner Schauspielhaus in 1984. Since then, the orchestra has become internationally recognized through numerous tours and recordings, collaborating with famous conductors, soloists, and dance companies.
