Bernie Taupin is a British lyricist, poet, and singer born in Sleaford, Lincolnshire, England, on May 22, 1950. Taupin is best known for his collaboration with singer Elton John, for whom he wrote a considerable amount of songs—including some of the most iconic songs in the history of rock and pop—such as Your Song and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. Taupin responded to an ad in the New Musical Express seeking songwriters, and he met Elton John. They have collaborated on many projects ever since. In 2013, Taupin was awarded the Johnny Mercer Award for his significant contributions to music.
