Antônio Carlos Brasileiro de Almeida Jobim, also known as Tom Jobim, was a Brazilian musician and composer who is considered one of the great exponents of Brazilian music. He played a primary role in the creation of the bossa nova style, which he later merged with jazz to create a new sound. Jobim's songs have been performed internationally since the 1960s, and he is sometimes known as the "father of bossa nova". His notable pieces include Garota de Ipanema, which has been recorded over 240 times by other artists, and the album Getz/Gilberto, which won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year in 1965.
