Albrecht Mayer is a German classical oboist and conductor, born in 1965 in Erlangen, Germany. He is best known as the principal oboist of the Berlin Philharmonic and has also made a name for himself as a soloist and chamber musician. Mayer started his career as principal oboist for the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra in 1990 and joined the Berlin Philharmonic in 1992. He is internationally recognized for his numerous recordings, including works by Bach, Handel, Vivaldi, and Mozart. A notable fact about Mayer is that he switched to a line of wind instruments named after him by the German instrument maker Gebrüder Mönnig in 2009.
