Anoushka Shankar is a British-American sitar player who has won nine Grammy nominations and was the first Indian-origin musician to perform and present at the Grammy Awards. Born on June 9th, 1981, in London, she learned the sitar from her father Ravi Shankar from the age of eight. She released her first album, Anoushka, in 1998 and has since performed across multiple genres, including classical and contemporary music. Notable pieces include Traces of You and Breathing Underwater, which features guest vocals from her half-sister Norah Jones and Sting.
