Francois Schubert

François Schubert is remembered above all for L’Abeille, or The Bee, a brilliant violin miniature from his Bagatelles. Not to be confused with Franz Schubert, he belonged to a 19th-century violin tradition centered on salon pieces, technical display, and compact character writing. The piece’s buzzing perpetual motion made it a durable encore and teaching work.
