Gustav Mahler

Gustav Mahler was an Austrian composer and conductor whose music stands at the end of the Romantic symphonic tradition and the beginning of modern orchestral thought. His major works include ten symphonies, Das Lied von der Erde, Kindertotenlieder, and Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen. Mahler expanded the symphony into a vast dramatic world of song, march, memory, and spiritual conflict.
