Johann Pachelbel

Johann Pachelbel belongs to the German Baroque keyboard and church tradition, even if one canon now overshadows much of his output. A composer and organ player, he wrote chorale preludes, fugues, variation sets, sacred vocal music, and chamber works. Canon and Gigue in D remains famous, but his broader importance lies in the south German organ style that helped form the world before Bach.
