Aidan O'Rourke is a Scottish contemporary folk music fiddle player and composer born in 1975. He grew up in a musical family in Oban and Seil island, listening to traditional songs from both Scottish and Irish cultures. After studying civil engineering at Strathclyde University, he moved to Edinburgh in 1998 and joined Blazin' Fiddles. In addition to his solo career, O'Rourke also plays in the award-winning folk trio Lau. He was commissioned to write a piece for the 2012 Summer Olympics and was named the 2014 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards Musician of the Year. O'Rourke has released three solo albums, including Sirius (2006) and Hotline (2013), and appears on more than eighty recordings.
