Andreas Scholl is a German countertenor, known for his specialization in Baroque music. Born into a family of singers, he began his musical journey at the age of seven as part of the Kiedricher Chorbuben boys choir. At 13, he was chosen to sing solo at a Mass held in Rome. He went on to study at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, an institution that normally only accepts post-graduate students. Scholl's major roles include his debut as Bertarido in Handel's Rodelinda at Glyndebourne in 1998. He has worked with most contemporary Baroque specialists and is a songwriter and composer of ballet and theatre music. He is currently a professor at the Universität Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria.
