Israel López Valdés

Israel López Valdés, known as Cachao, helped transform Cuban bass playing and dance music. From Cuba, he worked as a double bassist, composer, and bandleader, closely associated with the development of mambo and later descarga improvisation. His recordings connect danzón, Latin dance, Afro-Cuban rhythm, and the instrumental freedom that also touched jazz.
