Johann Joachim Quantz

Johann Joachim Quantz made the flute central to a courtly language of discipline, taste, and display. The German composer, performer, and theorist wrote hundreds of flute concertos and became closely associated with Frederick the Great. His treatise on flute playing remains a key document for understanding late Baroque and early Classical performance practice.
