Marin Marais

Marin Marais was a French composer and viola da gamba player of the Baroque period. His major works include five books of pieces for viol, Pièces en trio, and operas such as Alcyone. Marais expanded the expressive world of French viol music through dance forms, ornament, character pieces, and a strong feeling for instrumental color.
