Academy of St. Martin in the Fields
The Academy of St Martin in the Fields is a flexible English chamber orchestra, founded in 1959 by John Churchill and Neville Marriner as a small, conductorless string group. It played a key role in reviving Baroque performances in England and later expanded to include winds. The orchestra has an extensive discography, including over 500 sessions, and is the most recorded orchestra and conductor partnership. The ASMF received The Queen's Award for Export Achievement in 1993 and has notable pieces such as the soundtrack for the Oscar-winning film Amadeus. The orchestra appointed Joshua Bell as its Music Director in 2011, and Sally Beamish as composer-in-residence. The Academy of St Martin in the Fields Chamber Ensemble was created in 1967 and performs in various configurations featuring winds.
