GERRY MULLIGAN

Gerry Mulligan made the baritone saxophone a light, agile, and lyrical voice in modern jazz. A musician from the USA, he became central to cool jazz, pianoless quartet writing, and large-ensemble arranging. His work with Chet Baker, Miles Davis projects, and his own groups joined contrapuntal clarity with relaxed swing.
