Sintir

The sintir is a plucked bass lute used in Gnawa music, with a rectangular body, skin soundboard, and a deep percussive tone. It provides both melodic figures and rhythmic drive, often supporting call-and-response singing and metal castanets. The instrument is closely related to the guembri and has become a symbol of North African trance and ritual performance.
