Allauddin Khan was an Indian sarod player, multi-instrumentalist, and composer, who became one of the most notable music teachers of the 20th century in Indian classical music. He was born in Shibpur village in Brahmanbaria in present-day Bangladesh. Some of his notable students included Ravi Shankar and Ali Akbar Khan, who became famous exponents of Hindustani classical music. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 1958 and the Padma Vibhushan in 1971, India's third and second-highest civilian honors, respectively.
