ORCHESTRA

An orchestra is a large instrumental ensemble usually built around strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion. The modern symphony orchestra took shape during the Classical and Romantic periods, although its roots reach back to earlier theatre and court music. Orchestras perform symphonies, concertos, opera, ballet, film music, and many forms of contemporary repertoire.
